Do the bulk math
Bigger sizes are not automatically better value. Divide the price by ounces or counts, and remember that warehouse formats often land between two grocery prices.

Real price
The game
Costcodle is a daily price guessing game. Each day we put one warehouse-club item on the shelf, from frozen chicken to paper towels, and ask you to guess its price in US dollars. You get six guesses. Land within 5% of the real price and you win. Guesses from 5% to 25% away turn yellow, anything further turns red, and an arrow points you toward higher or lower. That is the whole game. No account, no download, no timer.
The shelf changes every day, and the archive holds 365 past puzzles you can play anytime. Practice mode mixes in random items when you want a warm-up. Your streak, win percentage, and guess distribution stay in your browser. Hints are there for the days when a price is genuinely weird. And yes, the bulk sizes are usually the tricky part.
How it works
One item is on the shelf, with a name, a size, and a category. There is no timer and no rush, so read the label before you type a number.
Package size is the loudest price clue. A 5 lb bag and a 72-count box can hide very different math, so check whether you are guessing for one unit or a family-size haul.
Enter your best guess in US dollars. Cents matter, but close is fine. You have six guesses, and each one prints on the receipt next to the last.
Green means you are within 5% and the round is won. Yellow means within 25%. Red means more than 25% away. The arrow tells you whether the real price is higher or lower than the guess you just made.
Three optional hints per puzzle, revealed one at a time. They do not cost guesses or points. The only trace is a small hint marker on the result you share.
Copy your emoji grid and send it to a friend who also overestimates bulk olive oil. Come back after local midnight for a fresh puzzle. Streaks count consecutive daily wins.
Free to play, with no sign-up, no account, and no ads. Puzzles reset at midnight in your local time zone. Read the full rules.
Unlimited mode
Unlimited mode deals you a random 100-puzzle pool from the season. Play round after round, chase a session streak, and when the pool runs dry it reshuffles. Your daily streak stays exactly where it was.
No shame in it
Hints are for the items that look cheap but are not, and the ones that look expensive until you check the size. You get three per puzzle. Open them one at a time, in order, and enjoy the slow build from aisle clue to a wide price band.
Hint one sets the scene: the aisle or the vibe. Use it to think about how that part of the store usually prices things.
Hint two adds the detail that separates similar items, like the count, the material, or the size. Now you can rule out whole price ranges.
Hint three gives a price band wide enough that you still have to think. It narrows the shelf. It does not choose the jar for you.

Field notes
Do the bulk math
Bigger sizes are not automatically better value. Divide the price by ounces or counts, and remember that warehouse formats often land between two grocery prices.
Split your range
If you have no idea, guess the middle of a plausible range first. The arrow tells you which half to abandon, and each guess cuts the remaining gap.
Watch the size, not the picture
A 60-count box of eggs and a 12-count carton play by different math. Check the unit line before you commit to a number.
Save hints for the weird ones
The 5% band is tight on cheap items and roomy on big-ticket ones. Spend hints where the price could plausibly be three different numbers.
Questions
Costcodle is a free daily price guessing game. Each day one warehouse-club item goes on the shelf, and you guess its price in US dollars with six tries. Guesses within 5% win. You get three optional hints, a 365-puzzle archive, and an emoji grid to share. No account, no email, no ads.
Open the puzzle, read the item and its size, then type your first price guess. After each guess the receipt shows whether you were within 5%, within 25%, or further away, plus an arrow telling you if the real price is higher or lower. Keep guessing up to six times, use hints if you want, and share your result at the end.
A win is any guess within 5% of the actual price, in either direction. That means a $10 item is a win anywhere from $9.50 to $10.50. Pricey items give you more cents of room for the same 5%, so a $300 item allows roughly $285 to $315. Guesses within 25% are close but not wins.
Yellow means your guess is within 25% of the real price but more than 5% away, so you are close without winning. Red means you are more than 25% off, sometimes way off. Every guess also shows an arrow: up if the real price is higher than your guess, down if it is lower.
Yes, three optional hints per puzzle. They reveal one at a time, moving from aisle vibe to a specific detail to a wide price band. Hints do not cost a guess and do not affect your result. The only change is a small hint marker on your shared result, so friends know you had help.
There is a 365-puzzle archive. Every past puzzle can be replayed, and each answer page shows the item, the price, the hints, and a short fact. Practice mode shuffles in random puzzles if you would rather not follow the calendar. The archive is free and needs no account.
It is completely free, with no account, no email, and no payment step. Play on any modern browser. Your streak, win percentage, and guess distribution are saved in your browser's local storage, not on our servers, so switching devices or clearing browsing data starts you fresh.
A new Costcodle puzzle appears at midnight in your local time zone. If you are in New York, that is 12:00 a.m. Eastern. If you are in London, it is your own midnight. There is one puzzle per calendar day, so the puzzle number changes even when the item feels familiar. Open the site after midnight and the next board is waiting.
In your browser, using localStorage. We do not have accounts, so nothing syncs across devices. Clearing site data or switching browsers hides your old stats. The good news is that your streak is never attached to an email address, and we never see your guess history.
No. Costcodle is an independent game with no affiliation, sponsorship, or endorsement from Costco Wholesale or costcodle.com. Product names are generic descriptions, prices are illustrative, and nothing here is a real store quote. Trademarks belong to their owners. We are just fans of the warehouse aisle who like guessing prices.
